The end of the school year is fast approaching. During this extremely busy time, we have just a few reminders and updates for you.

Negotiations: The Faculty Association negotiating team sent an update to your school email earlier this week. As mentioned in that message, your negotiators will meet again with the District on May 30, and a general meeting to update members on the current status of our contract negotiations will be held Monday, June 4, from 3:30-4:30 PM at the SMHS cafeteria.

Prep Time: We want to remind members that our preparation period time is our time to plan and prepare for the classes we are teaching.

Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) positions: We have received questions regarding TOSA positions as to what happens when full-time TOSAs return to the classroom. TOSAs who return to the classroom are guaranteed a position in the District, but the position may not be at the same site or in the same department (depending on the member’s credentials) that the member occupied before accepting a TOSA position. Please keep this in mind if you are thinking about applying for a full-time TOSA position.

Elections: Elections for the Faculty Association Executive Board, School Site Council, and Shared Decision Making committees are in process. Please refer to the emails sent by Elections Committee chair Jose Pereyra on May 4 for information on the election processes. The election timelines are posted below for your reference:

May 9, 2018: Deadline for nomination forms to be turned in to Elections committee. (1:00pm)
May 11, 2018: List of nominees sent to members at each school site
May 11, 2018: Declaration of Candidacy forms sent to nominees.
May 14, 2018: Declaration of Candidacy forms due from nominees who accept nomination.
May 15-18, 2018: Preparation of ballots and voter materials.
May 21-24, 2018: Distribution of voting materials to SMJUHSDFA members.
May 23, 2018: In person voting. CTA Office 2325 Skyway Dr. 3:30pm-4:30pm
May 24, 2018: Voting ends 3:10pm.
May 29, 2018: Announcement and posting of voting results.

Summer Contact Information: Most members have provided us with a personal/home email address, but we still do not have all members’ information. CTA recommends that the majority of our correspondence be done through personal/home email. In addition, we have found that many members do not check their school email during the summer, and we want to ensure that everyone receives any information and updates that may arise during the summer break. If you have not already done so, please provide a non-school email address. If you prefer, you may create a separate email account through any number of providers (Gmail, etc.) in lieu of providing your personal email. You may send the information to a site representative, a negotiator, or an Executive Board member. Thank you!
