I hope everyone is doing well as we journey deeper into the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year. Personally, I have been running on fumes and getting a little more stressed every day.

I wanted to bring your attention to a few things:

September Paycheck.
Our one-time 1.62% increase for the three professional development days we worked in August will be paid in our September paycheck. Please keep in mind that this is not a permanent increase to the salary schedule, and my calculation of 1.62% is based on our base pay and does not include extra days worked, extended day teaching or stipends we are paid in addition to our pay from the salary schedule. Another way to explain it is we will receive our daily rate times three.
(Salary from salary schedule divided by 185 = Daily rate)

School Calendar 2020-2021
The Board has approved the new school calendar for the 2020-2021 school year. The three additional days for the spring semester are reflected in this schedule on January 11, May 28 and June 11. The Board-approved School Calendar is here along with the old calendar and other documents.

AERIES
In AERIES, it looks like we can now go back in time one week to make changes to our attendance/engagement. The added work caused by students who choose to not attend our classes, or choose to not be engaged, is a burden we all share. The work you are all doing to engage the students is important for their education and also the future financial health of our district. On behalf of all of us, thank you for your efforts in going above and beyond.

Observation Timelines

Are you being evaluated this school year? Here is the timeline from our current contract. If you are a new teacher to the district, please let me know if you have any questions.

TIMELINE: TENURED: NON-TENURED:
Pre-Observation Conference by October 31 by October 1
Observations October – April October-February
Final Evaluation by May 1 by February 15

Medical Insurance Open Enrollment
The deadline is fast approaching. All changes for health, dental, and vision must be received by Friday, October 9, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. For enrollment assistance and questions, please contact Monica Herrera at the District Office. mherrera@smjuhsd.org
If you do not need to make any changes, then there is no need to take any action.
I have attached the document from Monica’s original email.

Learning Continuity Plan
The Learning Continuity Plan, approved by the Board, addresses how student learning continuity will be addressed during the COVID-19 crisis in the 2020–21 school year. The document can be found at the bottom of the documents page of our FA website.

Upcoming Changes that will affect us

There are two events that could take place sometime in the next few weeks:

1) It is possible that there will be changes to how we take attendance and how we utilize our Monday Flex day. Keep an eye out for more information from John Davis.

2) The District will begin testing all employees on our campuses for COVID-19. Keep an eye out for more information from Kevin Platt.

I don’t have any additional information on these topics, but wanted to give you a heads-up.
I believe both are a result of laws or requirements from the California Department of Education or the Governor’s office.

Hope you have a great rest of your week.
Thanks,
Matt Provost
